Main Street in Historic Springfield.Jacksonville, Florida (PRWEB) September 20, 2005 -- Celebrating the first year of innovative film programs, industry workshops, and special events; The Springfield Film Festival announces the SPRINGFIELD FILM FESTIVAL AWARDS GALA scheduled for Thursday, October 20 with the reception beginning at 6 p.m. entitled “PARIS: CITY OF LIGHTS” at 9th and Main Gallery/Henrietta’s Restaurant located at 1850 N. Main Street in Historic Springfield. Tickets at the door $10. The evening will combine a theme based reception reflecting the soirees well known from the decadent nightlife of the Parisian cabarets illustrated by artist Toulouse Lautrec. The “City of Lights” will be highlighted with live CAN CAN dancers, live musical ensemble, silent auction, film screenings, a colossal size chocolate fountain with a generous array of fresh berries, cakes, and biscotti for ample dipping of imported French milk chocolate prepared by Choc O’ Lat Shoppe of Jacksonville. More extravagant presentations include a new art exhibit featuring the innovative photographic art of Heather Blanton from Atlantic Beach, Florida. Beginning with basic Polaroid’s of her subject matter including florals, streetscapes taken from Downtown Jacksonville and her sojourns to New York City; the artist has created a series of photographs enlarged to a median size of three feet by three feet, printed and stretched to reflect stretched canvas. Thereafter, each piece is personalized by spontaneous, yet structured manipulation of painterly treatment to enhance it’s essence. Ms. Blanton studied photography at The Art Institute in Ft. Lauderdale and University of North Florida. Visit www.HeatherBlanton.com The art exhibit will also feature new paintings by Linda Olsen, who resides in Neptune Beach, Florida. Beginning with an acrylic paint base for depth and illumination on stretched canvas, Ms. Olsen then finishes some of her paintings in oils bringing a naturalistic volume to her portraits of mermaids. The range of her paintings reflect candid portraiture of lifelike representation of real women enhanced by the mythic ‘mermaid’ like attributes. Her work is obviously fluid and resonates between the dimensions of reality and allegory. Her photographic portraits of the female mermaid will be on exhibit as well. Ms. Olsen studied fine art, design and art history, and is a graduate from San Diego State University.
